A Little French Music, March 1981
The concert brings together 4 outstanding young artists who all studied with the great French baritone, the late Pierre Bernac, as their tribute to the memory of a unique performer and a matchless teacher, soprano Caroline Friend, tenor Julian Pike and baritone Gareth Morrell, with Ellen Porter at the piano, present a selection of French songs and melodies, ranging from the tender to the light-hearted and witty. Faure, Debussy and Ravel are among the composers represented, and the music of Francis Poulenc (including a number of his extraordinary Apollinaire settings) is especially featured.
