Annie Get Your Gun, February 1979
During the week beginning Monday 12th February, the LETCHWORTH ARCADIANS pay another visit to the GORDON CRAIG. Their choice of production this time is ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. This musical, with its wealth of good tunes, which in sheer numbers has perhaps been equalled but never surpassed, is IRVING BERLIN’S finest achievement. Yet, strangely, it should have been written by JEROME KERN if he had lived, and BERLIN had to be talked into doing it. The story is not too distantly based on the real Annie Oakley. She falls in love with a rival crack shot, Frank Butler. The background of the show is Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show with plenty of Indians including Sitting Bull. Once again the ARCADIANS give us proof that “THERE’S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESS”. Director PETER DAVIES, Musical Director GRAHAME ALBONE, Choreographer KARYL BELLRINGER.
