Brief Lives, February 1998
Adapted by Patrick Garland from the writings of the 17th century Antiquary, John Aubrey, this is an entertainment like no other, packed with bawdy and outrageous reminiscences of the age as an old man in the last year of his life looks back on a magical and hilarious period.
Michael Williams – one of our most distinguished actors – takes on the role of the disreputable biographer, Aubrey, in this unique, outstanding play for one player, which attracted great critical acclaim after its first triumphant production in the West End and later on Broadway. Brief Lives later earned its place in the Guiness Book of Records for the longest running one-man show in history.
“Marvellous. The music of humanity, that rare and precious sound in the theatre – steals over the house.” The Times.
