Carlos Bonell is a superb interpreter of Spanish music — he has received some of the highest awards including a Grammy nomination, and his recording of Rodrigo’s Concerto was singled out by the Penguin CD Guide as the finest available. Tonight, with soprano Patricia Rozario, flautist Mara del Sol, guitarist Panteleimon Michaeloudis, and Peter Capell on chitarra bassa, he will play Cuban landcape with bells, Fantasia on themes from Verdi’s La Traviata, 5 Tonadillas, Bachianas Brasilieras No 5, La Oracion del Torero, Hoe-Down (from Rodeo), Intermezzo and Ines, Nanita Nana, El Vito.
