Carmen, November 1984
Opera by Bizet, produced by Opera East. Twelve professional singers had each rehearsed one of the four main roles and only on the day of the performance was the actual performer chosen, with the other singers taking on other roles. This system was to ensure the best performance each evening, capturing spontaneity and emphasising the role of fate in the opera itself. The small accompanying orchestra conveyed the essence of Bizet’s vivacious music.
Tickets priced at £5.50, £4.50 and £4.00 (concessions at £3.85, £3.15 and £2.80).
