Carmina Burana, November 1993
Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana with Lisa Tyrell, soprano; Paul Agnew, tenor; Richard Halton, baritone; the Hertfordshire Chorus; Capital Arts Children’s Choir; The Nemano Percussion Ensemble of London; Susan Graham Smith & Simon Bettridge, pianos. Conductor: Michael Kibblewhite
A stunning performance of this immensely popular work. Many TV adverts, as well as pop star Michael Jackson, have featured the choruses which are now very familiar. Because of its sheer animal vivacity and thrusting rhythms, with racy and often salacious text, this is one of the most well-known and well-loved works. Paired with Elgar’s From the Bavarian Highlands — also tuneful and rhythmic, but in a completely contrasting style, this is a concert not to be missed!
