Henry IV, Part 1, October 1983
Macbeth and Henry IV, Part 1 are the two Shakespeare masterpieces to be presented by producer Vanessa Ford in the week beginning Monday 17 October. Here are the stories of two ambitious men: both wish to be King, and both succeed — but each at a heavy price! A strong company, which includes former RSC and NT players, as well as such stars as Z Cars’ Douglas Fielding, presents the Scottish King’s tragedy for the first three days of the week, and English Bolingbroke’s progress to the throne from Thursday to Saturday. Both plays are directed by the NT’s Michael McCaffery, whose vivid production of Romeo and Juliet for the same company last year was widely admired.
