La Traviata, October 1989
La Traviata – The Ballet
Music: Guiseppe Verdi arranged by Guy Woolfenden
Choreography: Andre Prokovsky
Design: Peter Farmer
Andre Prokovsky’s LA TRAVIATA, based on Dumas’ The Lady of the Camellias, is the moving and highly charged novel, transformed into a rarely seen full length ballet. Set in the heady atmosphere of Paris, the story focuses on the doomed love affair between Marguerite and Armand and how Marguerite makes the ultimate sacrifice demanded of her in order to save the name of her lover’s family.
Verdi’s well loved score, Peter farmer’s sumptuous and evocative designs and the passionate and sensuous themes running through the story, so to make LA TRAVIATA, a romantic and poignant ballet.
