Moonlight & Magnolias, October 2015
Moonlight & Magnolias is a theatrical comedy that gives you a glimpse into 1939 Hollywood. Five weeks into filming and production has just been shut down on the most anticipated movie in history – David O Selznick million dollar budget version of Margaret Mitchell’s best selling novel ‘Gone with the Wind’. Scrapping the script and director in the process, Selznick is determined to produce a rewrite in five days. Selznick calls director Victor Fleming from the set of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Selznick also taps legendary screen writer and ‘script doctor’ Ben Hecht to rewrite the script. There is only one problem, Hecht is one of the few people in Hollywood that hasn’t read the book. Selzick’s reputation is on the line, he locks himself in his office with his two collaborators and trusty assistant Miss Poppenghul, with nothing but a stockpile of peanuts and bananas to sustain them, and an epic creative session begins. They will spend the next five days acting out and fashioning a screenplay that will become a blue print for one of the most beloved films of all time.
