Much Ado About Nothing, March 1999
Presented by Matthew Townsend Productions in association with the Gordon Craig Theatre, Stevenage.
There were no performances on the 17th and 18th March.
A war has ended and the men are too shell-shocked to spot an obvious piece of wicked mischief even when it stares them in the face. It takes a disastrous wedding ceremony, a bit of strange trickery dreamt up on the spot by the priest and most of all, it takes the wit and the fire in Beatrice to bring everyone to their senses and to see evil for what it is. One of Shakespeare’s mature and complex comedies in which the women don’t get to wear the trousers but it might be better if they did.
