New London Ballet, November 1976
One of the outstanding British ballet successes of the 20th century. The performance included three works by their founder and director, Andre Prokovsky: Soft Blue Shadows to the music of Faure, Vespri (to Verdi’s Sicilian Vespers music) and Faust Variations (Gounod). The programme also featured the Pas de Deux from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty. Galina Samsova led the company on the first night, and another of the world’s brilliant ballerinas Maina Gielgud on the other two nights. There was also a special schools matinee on the last day.
Tickets priced at £1.70, £1.30 and the schools matinee at 50p.
