New Lyttleton Band, February 1979
The NEW LYTTLETON band is the most versatile unit that HUMPH has fronted in 30 years of band leading. Not only are the soloists superb, but also the ensemble work is very strong. The classic New Orleans front line is enriched by the addition of baritone sax and the exciting two cornet set-up that had its origins in KING OLIVER’S JAZZ BAND over 55 years ago. The front line of both four to five pieces is able to do justice to DUKE ELLINGTON favourites as well as to the special arrangements written for the band by the American trumpeter and composer BUCK CLAYTON, and the three clarinet features never fail to bring audiences to their feet.
