Orchestral Workshop Stevenage Schools, March 1979
The STEVENAGE SCHOOLS ORCHESTRAL WORKSHOP which takes place in the Gordon Craig commencing at 1.30pm on Tuesday 6th March is the result of an invitation sent by the Stevenage Music Centre to all local Secondary Schools to participate in a day’s combined activity, with the aim of letting any school see and hear what the others are up to. At the time of going to press at least six schools have indicated their intention of sending ensembles to take part, and each will play a short programme to the combined audience of all the others-and to any members of the public who may care to come along to see what’s happening at the grass roots level of youthful music-making. Everyone, of course, is going to set out to give the”best” performance, and a wide range of sounds and styles can be expected; the event is entirely uncompetitive, but it is hoped that each ensemble will end the day with, at least, a greater awareness of the myriad of possibilities which music can open up for them.
Admission to the general public 15p, at the door on the day only.
