Peter Donohoe, March 1982
“Peter Donohoe is the brilliant young English pianist whose fine performance of Beethoven’s G major Concerto, in the televised finals of September’s Leeds International Pianoforte Competition, gave rise to such controversy. On Sunday 28 March he presents the third of our Award Winners concerts, and again Beethoven’s music is featured. Before the interval come three popular sonatas — the attractive little F sharp major, Op. 78, the programmatic E flat major, Op. 81a, known as Les Adieux, and the glorious Moonlight, Op. 27/2. The second part of the recital is devoted to just one work — Liszt’s staggering transcription for piano of nothing less than Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony!”
