Room with a View (PG), August 1987
Florence 1907. Arriving at the Pensione Bertolini, Miss Lucy Honeychurch and her older cousin Miss Charlotte Bartlett are disappointed with their rooms, an offer to exchange with the uncouth Mr Emerson and his son George is reluctantly accepted when other British guests, including the Reverend Arthur Beeb, kindly intervene. Next day, while Charlotte is taken on a guided tour by aspiring novelist Miss Eleanor Lavish, Lucy goes sightseeing alone and witnesses a street fight, fainting at the sight of blood, she is looked after by George Emerson who agrees not to mention the event to the others. During a subsequent outing to Fiesole countryside , George kisses lucy, uninvited, just as Charlotte arrives to find them, shocked, the two ladies cut short their stay, promising to keep the incident a secret. That one kiss, however follows Lucy for many years to come.
