Sive (A Melodrama), February 1979
We welcome for the first time to Stevenage the COVENTRY IRISH THEATRE GROUP in a production of “SIVE” by JOHN B. KEANE. The play concerns the story of SIVE, a young girl of nineteen who is being forced to accept marriage to a man more than three times her age. Although already in love with a much younger man she is nevertheless subjected to pressures beyond human endurance to accept the “match” so that the greedy whims of her foster mother and a matchmaker can be fulfilled. This is not a pretty play as the picture of greed, frustration and ignorance is unveiled and is relieved only by the rich authentic dialogue and grim humour of the characters involved.
All seats: £1.50.
