Star Trek IV (The Voyage Home) (PG), August - September 1987
It is the 23rd century – our world is on the edge of destruction. The only hope for salvation lies in the past. Admiral James T Kirk (William Shatner), Captain Spock (Leonard Nimoy) and Dr Leonard ‘Bones’ McCoy (DeForest Kelly) are no stranger to adventure but they are strangers to our world – the world of San Francisco 1986. Summoned back to earth of the 23rd century to face court martial, the crew of the sabotaged Starship Enterprise find their journey halted by mysterious signals from a space probe that is destroying the surface of the planet. After analysing these strange signals, they discover that they are the cries of the humpbacked whale that became extinct three centuries earlier.
They realise that the only way they can save the world is by travelling back to a time when the whales were still alive and transporting them forward to the 23rd century so they can answer the cries from the probe and save it from destroying the world.
