Stevenage Symphony Orchestra, March 1979
THE STEVENAGE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA makes a welcome return to our stage on Saturday 24th March. PETER WIGFIELD conducts, and the soloist in Beethoven’s rapturous Violin Concerto is the brilliant Israeli artist YOSSI ZIVONI, who made such a profound impression at his Gordon Craig recital a couple of years ago. The rest of the programme comprises Beethoven’s Overture Leonore No.111, the Suite in D major which Sir Michael Tippett dedicated to Prince Charles, and an all-too rare performance of Elgar’s In The South-a fine piece of descriptive music which should, by any rational explanation, be as well-loved as the much better-known Enigma Variations. A great evening for music lovers!
ALL SEATS: £1.20, £1.50, £1.70.
