Stevenage Youth Orchestra, March 1982
“The Stevenage Youth Orchestra, under Musical Director Paul Wright, return to give this month’s orchestral concert on Sunday 14 March. The main work in the programme is Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, Op. 88, brimful of rhythm and melody — and everyone who heard these young players’ impassioned account of the same composer’s New World Symphony last year will want to catch that. The Symphony is preceded by the very attractive Scenes from the Humber by contemporary English composer Anthony Hedges — a work commissioned by the BBC to mark the opening of the Humber Bridge, its bright and breezy textures ideally suited to performance by young musicians. One further work will be announced shortly”.
