The Countess From Hong Kong (A), May 1979
USA 1967 Director Charlie Chaplin
MARLON BRANDO, SOPHIA LOREN. Although the film boasts the talents of both these stars in the leading roles and the direction of CHAPLIN, it’s just another romantic comedy, worth watching but very disappointing. Most of the action takes place aboard a luxury liner with SOPHIA as an immigrant stowaway in U.S. diplomat BRANDO’S cabin and there’s a fair amount of boudoir fun and games before the finale in which true love triumphs. A bonus for Chaplin fans is a brief silent appearance by the master himself as a very seasick steward. First major film to be directed by Chaplin in years.
