The Wren Orchestra of London, February 1984
The Wren Orchestra, familiar to many through their close association with Capital Radio – pay their first visit to the Gordon Craig. They are joined on this occasion by one of Britain’s most distinguished violinists, Ralph Holmes – remembered by many for his appearance here two years ago with the Stevenage Symphony – as both director and soloist in one of the most delightful programmes we’ve ever offered. Bach’s E major Violin Concerto and Holst’s entrancing St Paul’s Suite (originally written for the school where he taught for many years) make up the first part, and after the interval comes what surely must be the four best known violin concertos ever penned – the pieces from Vivaldi’s Op.8 now universally known as The Four Seasons. Strongly recommended – book early!
