Wildlife Films, March 1982
The Stevenage Supporters Group of the World Wildlife Fund has arranged another film evening in aid of this worthiest of environmental charities on Thursday 4 March. Three Survival Anglia films make up a varied programme: A Wealth of Wildfowl come to the Ouse Washes — a strip of grazing between the Old and New Bedford Rivers — every winter, and in spring the three rarest nesting birds in Britain raise their young here. Staying in East Anglia, we next see fascinating glimpses of The Vanishing Otter, a beast so shy that it’s seldom seen even in its Norfolk strongholds. Finally, in utter contrast, comes Al Giddings’ amazing underwater documentary on one of the world’s most mysterious creatures: Humpbacks: The Gentle Giants, filmed in breeding grounds off Hawaii and offshore Alaskan pastures, sheds new light on these vast mammals’ extraordinary intelligence and behaviour.
Tickets £1.10 and £1.40
